Music at Utrecht
Marvin Robertson
Marvin Robertson, who served as a member on the music committee for the 1995 General Conference meeting, was chair of the music department at Southern Adventist College when the following was written.
Spectacular and inspiring are the words that best describe the variety of music talent featured at the General Conference in Utrecht. More than 1100 musicians performed throughout the ten-day session.
Choirs and soloists sang in many languages, and instrumental ensembles featuring both familiar and exotic instruments from around the world made one realize that music is truly a universal language, one that transcends culture and race, reaching directly into our hearts.
The phrase "Praise God from whom all blessings flow" fails to fully express the thankfulness and inspiration that we who coordinated the music for the meetings felt as we listened to those who performed. Our world church has been truly blessed with superb musical talent.
This personal reaction to the music was published in the Autumn 1995 issue of Notes
