René Mario Ramos
René Ramos is Associate Professor of Music
History and Theory at La Sierra University, where he has been since 1983. A
native of Peru, Ramos graduated with a degree in piano pedagogy from the Nacional de Musica of Buenos
Aires in 1969.
He subsequently completed a
master’s degree at Andrews University in 1973 and, in 1998, a Ph.D. in
musicology at Indiana University. His dissertation was titled The Symphonies of Gaetano Brunetti (1744-1798). He is a member of Pi Kappa
Lambda.
Ramos taught at Universidad Adventista del Plata in Argentina,
where he served as head of the music department for three years; at Andrews
University; and as a graduate assistant Instructor at IU. He received the LSU
Distinguished Teaching Award at the school's commencement service in 2001. A
demanding and popular teacher, Ramos was cited for his rapport with the
students, innovative teaching, mentoring, and consistently high student
evaluations.
