Phyllis L. Park Beasley Radu
Phyllis Radu,
an elementary school teacher and administrator at Countryside SDA School in Spokane,
Washington, is also an accomplished singer. At age fifteen she began voice
lessons with Marilyn Cotton. For the next eight years, she continued with
Cotton while also studying with JoAnn Robbins and Moses Chalmers, teachers at
La Sierra College, now La Sierra University.
Beginning in academy and
continuing in college, Phyllis had been a member of select choral groups as
well as a vocalist in the LSC college choir and oratorio chorus. In her junior year at LSC, she was one of the
soprano soloists in the college's presentation of Handel's Messiah.
A soloist in numerous
churches and at camp meetings across the United States in her early years, Radu recorded an album for Chapel Records in 1987 entitled Bring Back the Glory. Part of her preparation for the recording was
voice lessons with William Carey II in the last three months of 1986. This recording
led to singing opportunities throughout the U.S. and an invitation to record
fifteen songs for the Three Angels Broadcast Network, which used eight of these
as part of their Christmas Special for that season.
In 2001 and 2003 Radu had the opportunity to sing in Lutsk and Uzgorod, Ukraine, for evangelistic meetings.
In 2005 she enrolled at Walla
Walla College, now University, where she completed a degree in elementary
education and a minor in music. While at WWC, she studied voice with Christine
Janis in the department of music, completing her undergraduate degree in 2005,
and a master’s degree in leadership education in 2008.
She is currently a member of
the Sounds of Praise choir in Spokane.
