Maury A. Castro

1978 -

Maury Castro, an organist, is minister of music at the First Presbyterian Church in Troy, New York, a position he has held since August 2008. After completing a B.A. degree in theology at Pacific Union College in 2000, he completed an M.Div. at Andrews University in 2002.

Castro pursued graduate study in philosophy for a year at Boston College and then completed a Master of Sacred Music in Organ Performance at Boston University, where he studied organ with Peter Sykes and choral conducting with Miguel Felipe. Previous organ teachers included Richard Clark and Del Case.

Before accepting his present position, he was minister of music at the Eliot Church of Newton in Newton, Massachusetts. He also serves as accompanist for the Festival Celebration Choir, based in the capitol district of nearby Albany. Castro is a member of the American Guild of Organists, Choristers Guild, Presbyterian Association of Musicians, and the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada.

He and his wife, Kerén, an elementary school language arts teacher, have three daughters, Delia, Chiara, and Gabrielle.
