Elvin S. Rodriguez
Elvin Rodriguez, chair of the
music department at La Sierra University since 2011, is Professor of
Music and Director of Keyboard Studies and Music Technology at La Sierra
University, a position he has held since 1998. He has an extensive background
as a soloist, performer in chamber music, and is a frequent presenter at
workshops and conferences. He has also done extensive research in and
development of on-line courseware in music theory. Rodriguez was involved in
research and development of a music theory software program now published as Musica Analytica,
one that is compatible with both PC's and Macs. He has made several
presentations about MA at educator's conferences.
In addition to his activity
in music technology, Rodriguez is active as a performer on piano. He is
involved researching and performing Spanish/Latin American Repertoire that is
infrequently performed either because it is out of print or not yet published.
Rodriguez received B.Mus. and
M.Mus. degrees in piano performance from the Manhattan
School of Music and an Ed.M. and Ed.D. in music education from Teachers College at Columbia
University. A piano student of Rhona Hodgen, Earl Voorhies, Constance
Keene, Mark Silverman, and Robert Pace, he has won many awards and competitions
in piano, including earning the distinction of Promising Young Artist from the
national ARTS organization and the Young Artist Guild Award.
